G6 Training details

Typical G6 training occurs in a 3-day format: 2-day IPv6 courses and 1-day hands-on.

G6 training course topics

This section describes the agenda for the training course of the G6 training session.

Concept and Historical facts

This first part of the training recalls the basics concept of datagram and IP and presents the historical facts of the creation of IPv4 and then the different issues the IETF have faced to scale this technology with the growth of the Internet. This explains why the IPv6 protocol has been designed.

Associated management protocols

This section describes the different protocols and mechanisms used for the management of IPv6:

  • ICMPv6, Auto-configuration,
  • DHCPv6,
  • DNS
  • Security and Firewalling

Integration of IPv6 in existing infrastructure

This section describes the different mechanisms and strategies to integrate IPv6 in exisiting IPv4 infrastructure, considering 3 major uses cases:

  • IPv6 in the core network
  • IPv6 in ISPs
  • Ipv6 in managed networks

G6 training hands-on detail

The G6 training hands-on aims students to follow an incremental IPv6 deployment scenario in a managed network. Topics of the hands-on are:

  • Addressing scheme
  • SLAAC and DHCPv6
  • DNS
  • Interoperability with ALG and reverse proxys
  • Basic security with access lists (linux, cisco)
